KATHMANDU, JUL 01 -

The US Senate on Friday confirmed Peter W Bodde as the next ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal. Bodde was nominated by US President Barack Obama in the first week of March.

Bodde has already served the US mission in Nepal twice: most recently as deputy chief of Mission from 1994 to 1997 and as attaché from 1982 to 1984, according to a press statement posted on the US Embassy website. Bodde will succeed Ambassador Scott H DeLisi, who left Katmandu last week. DeLisi was appointed new US ambassador to Uganda on January 24.  Ambassador Bodde, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, is currently the Assistant Chief of Mission for Assistance Transition in Iraq and Coordinator for Minority Issues at the US Embassy in Baghdad.

Previously, Bodde served as US ambassador to the Republic of Malawi from 2008 to 2010. From 2006 to 2008, he was deputy chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Islamabad. From 2002 to 2006, he was Consul General at the US Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany.
