KATHMANDU, JUL 13 - Former lawmaker Naradmuni Rana, one of the accused in diplomatic passport misuse scam, was released on Thursday after he produced a bank guarantee of worth Rs 500,000 as set by the Special Court.

The court had set the bail amount after recording his statement and conducing a preliminary hearing.

A full bench of the court led by Chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki set the bail amount of Rs 500,0000, arguing that his involvement in misusing diplomatic passport cannot be proved wrong.

The charge sheet filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) states that Nirmal Baniya had used Rana's red passport and left for Australia replacing the photo used in Rana's passport with a new one.

Court statement also states that the defendant had put his signatures in both passport and visa note that Baniya used in leaving the country.

During the interrogation, Rana however had denied his involvement in passport misuse and his lawyers defend the case. But the court said his wrongdoings were proved true through investigation and denied to release him on general bail as demanded by the defendant.
