In a bid to explore the possibility of making the under construction roads in the Kathmandu Valley disabled-friendly, an interaction programme was organised by the Independent Living Centres for Persons with Disabilities, Kathmandu.
At the function held on Friday, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MoPPW), Tulsi Prasad Sitaula, said the ongoing road expansion in the Valley has presented a wonderful opportunity to build disabled-friendly roads and assured stakeholders that the ministry was positive about the proposal.
Usha Pokharel, advisor of the disabled’s organisation, spoke about the importance of this move, expressing concern at the discrimination the disabled face. As part of the programme, a photo exhibition was organised by Durga Man Tamang through the roads and footpaths of Kathmandu.
Engineer Shyam Kharel also stressed the government’s role in making Kathmandu a disabled-friendly city.
