KATHMANDU, JUN 26 -
CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya on Monday tabled a political document proposing that the party begin preparations for a 'People's Revolt'. The document tabled at the Central Committee (CC) meeting stated that the party's ultimate goal is to overthrow the present regime and establish the one that "ensures people's rights."
In the party's first CC meet since its formation on June 18, Baidya spoke about four preparations--political and ideological, organisational, creation of a favourable environment at the international level and the organisation of youths through military training.
"Our ultimate strategy is to change the current regime and establish one through revolt," a CC member quoted Baidya as saying in the meeting.
Baidya, former senior vice-chairman of the UCPN (Maoist), formed a new party after Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Baburam Bhattarai took the line of peace and constitution while committing to a democratic republic.
Baidya proposed organising a roundtable conference and spoke in favour of an interim government to end the current political stalemate that has plagued the country since the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly on May 27.
A senior leader said that the roundtable conference would help them gain support of ethnic groups and marginalised communities. "The roundtable is just a tactic to help our long-term strategy," Baidya said.
Gajurel proposed vice-chair Meanwhile, presenting a document regarding the party's organisational structure, General Secretary
Ram Bahadur Thapa proposed strengthening the grassroots level and forming a five-member party office bearer inducting Standing Committee members Dev Gurung and Netra Bikram Chand as party's secretaries. Thapa proposed elevating incumbent secretary CP Gajurel to vice-chairman. "The CC meet will anonymously endorse the proposal to promote Gurung and Chand," said CC member Bharat Bam.
According to Bam, the CC will not extend till the general convention slated for February next year.
