PALPA, JUN 24 -

Destroyed during the decade-long conflict period, the historical Palpa Durbar has not been reconstructed yet. As a result of this, the government offices housed in the palace earlier are facing a tough time catering to service seekers for want ot their own buildings.

The offices of District Administration, District Development Committee (DDC), District Land Revenue Office (DLRO), District Treasure and National Investigation Department (NID) were based in the palace before its destruction by the then rebel party, CPN (Maoist), in 2005.

While the administration office is housed in a hut and a rented building, the treasure office, however, has its own building. The DLRO has also rented a house. “Besides facing difficulties in running the office, I am living in a stable,” said Chief District Officer Tikaram Ghimire.

Reconstruction of the palace started in 2007 with a target to complete it within three years. In between this period, the Rs 56.2 million construction project got two extenstions.

According to the district office of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), around 90 percent construction work of the palace have been completed. “If construction continues without a pause, it will complete in four months,” said a DUDBC engineer.
