KATHMANDU, JUN 28 -

In a bid to forge consensus among political parties on economic issues, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Wednesday held an interaction with major political parties’ leaders for common minimum economic agenda.

On the occasion, the FNCCI submitted a preliminary draft of common minimum economic agenda to the leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist), Rastriya Janashakti Party among other. “The idea is to have broader understanding amongst the parties on economic and development priorities that could expedite the development works and ensure predictable business environment,” said FNCCI President Suraj Vaidhya.

In the meeting, the FNCCI urged the leaders to find common ground for timely presentation of annual budget and having common understanding on economic issues to ensure economic development even during political instablility.

According to Vaidya, leaders agreed in principle on having common agenda on economy but were divided on the budget. Leaders of the opposition parties said that a full-fledged budget was only possible after the formation of a consensus government. They, however, said that the government could bring advance budget.

The private sector has been asking the government for common minimum economic agenda to shield the economy from the negative impact of the current political turmoil.
