Former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, who was hospitalised following a critical cardiac arrest, has been discharged.
Thapa was admitted to the Norvic Hospital in Thapathali after he fell unconscious on June 9 while addressing a Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) meeting at Sano Gaucharan, Kathmandu. RJP Chairman Thapa was put on a ventilator for around 24 hours. He showed signs of improvement after a team of Nepali and Indian doctors, led by Dr RR Kasliwal from the Medanta Medicity Hospital in Delhi, successfully implanted an advanced double chambered pacemaker to ease his heartbeat. The octogenarian leader and five-time prime minister is an old heart patient, having undergone open-heart surgery some 25 years ago. Upon his discharge from the hospital, Thapa said he was grateful to the doctors who treated him patiently and with cooperation. Thapa was treated by a team of doctors including Dr Kasliwal and Dr Nagendra Chouhan from India and Dr Bharat Rawat, Dr Shyam Bahadur Pandey, Dr J P Jayaswal and Dr Chattra Karki from Nepal.
