KATHMANDU, JUL 08 -
Giving continuity to one of his populist programmes--PM with the People, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai reached Tathali VDC-8 in Bhaktapur on Saturday evening to interact with the local people, representatives of political parties, civil society members and social activists.
Following his announcement of the move last month, this is the prime minister's second stay at a commoner's house. According to the plan, Bhattarai will reach a rural settlement in the country every month to talk current affairs with the people and spend a night there.
Bhattarai reached Tathali with his wife Hisila Yami and a team of assistants, said one of his aides Bishowdeep Pandey. Upon arrival, the PM was welcomed by locals with traditional music. Bhattarai will spend a night at the residence of Ram Lal Nemafuki, a long-time communist cadre. Last month, the prime minister spent a night out at Jhor Mahankal in Kathmandu. The initiative is said to be aimed at perceiving the people's problems first hand and collecting their feedback.
During his stay, the PM will talk to people from various walks of life, listen to their grievances and complaints and seek their feedback. The move has been criticised by the Opposition as populist.
