KATHMANDU, JUN 25 - SG Global, the sole authorised distributor of Mahindra two-wheelers in Nepal, rolled out the Mahindra Duro DZ, a 125 cc scooter, on Sunday. SG Global is a subsidiary of the Shanker Group.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, managing director Sahil Agrawal said that the company was confident about the performance of the newly unveiled two-wheeler. “We are confident of making a big success of these products through an extensive network of 24 dealers and three exclusive showrooms across the country,” he said.
Likewise, Gajanan Umarekar, regional business manager, Mahindra Two-Wheelers, said that the new Mahindra Duro offers a unique combination of superior power, advanced telescopic suspension and varieties of other important durability and safety related features making it stand tall among its competitors.
“With an amazing range of superior features and a very attractive launch price, the new Mahindra Duro DZ is the perfect choice for the entire family, and is sure to be an instant hit in Nepal where it has successfully undergone extensive road tests,” said Umarekar.
The scooter market in Nepal has been growing rapidly. Around 21,000 scooters were sold in the fiscal year 2010-11, and traders predict that the figure might hit 27,000-28,000 this year.
The newly unveiled two-wheeler has a superior, powerful 125 cc engine which can produce a maximum power of 8 bhp at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 9 nm at 5,500 rpm. According to SG Global, the engine provides better pick-up and multi-terrain acceleration, making it easier to carry loads, even on steep inclines and in tough terrain conditions. Likewise, its dual curve digital ignition system delivers superior mileage.
With a larger fuel tank of 6.5 l, the machine can go a longer distance compared to other two-wheelers in the segment. Likewise, it has a long wheelbase and improved braking system offering better safety and stability on the road. A handle-mounted broad halogen lamp provides a wider beam for visibility, and there is a rear brake lock lever for safety and parking on inclines, the company said.
The scooter has a ground clearance of 155 mm enabling manoeuvrability over speed breakers and rough roads with ease and comfort. An under seat storage capacity of 20 l is the largest in its segment along with built-in front storage, the company said.
The Mahindra Duro is available in seven elegant shades—Fiery black, Pearl white, Cappuccino brown, Mystique grey, Royal Purple, Supreme silver and Derby red. The company has announced a special introductory price for the scooter of Rs 154,900.
