2012 Punto and Linea from Fiat rolled out

Batas Brothers Motors, the sole authorised distributor of Italian automaker Fiat in Nepal, has introduced the 2012 models of the Fiat Punto, a hatchback, and the Linea, a luxury sedan.

“Fiat’s 2012 Linea and Punto are one of the most distinctive models in terms of styling, safety and low pollution available in Nepal. The Fiat Punto is designed for small families giving the right size and driveability options while the Linea luxury sedan is spacious, providing large boot space for carrying a lot of baggage,” said the company in a statement.

Batas has introduced two new variants of the Fiat Linea. The car is available in 1.3 advanced multijet diesel and 1.4 fire petrol engine. The diesel engine can produce a maximum power of 90 ps at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 115 nm at 4,500 rpm. Likewise, the petrol version produces a maximum power of 93 ps at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 209 nm at 2,000 rpm.

The car is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission system. It has a boot capacity of 500 l and fuel tank capacity of 45 l. Its streamlined contours, sloping windscreen, dual parabola headlamps and distinctive grill all allude to its unmistakable Italian pedigree, the company said. With stylish R 16 alloy wheels and chrome inserts completing the picture, the Linea shares a distinctively new look. The company claims the car has got the best in class ground clearance. 

Meanwhile, the Punto is a sporty muscular car. With scooped out headlamps, a distinctive silhouette and the signature Fiat grille, the car stands out among other hatchbacks running on domestic roads. According to the company, the new version of the Punto is a perfect combination of poise, comfort, convenience, space and sportiness. The car has the best in class ground clearance of 195 mm.

The petrol version of the Punto is fitted with a 1.2 l engine and the diesel version has a 1.3 l engine. The 1.2 l engine can produce a maximum power of 68 ps at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 96 nm at 2,500 rpm. Likewise, the diesel engine produces a maximum power of 78 ps at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 197 nm at 1,750 rpm. The car has a five-speed manual transmission system.

The Punto is equipped with central door locking, powerful air conditioner, radio with CD and MP3 along with four speakers and a brighter dual tone interior. Likewise, the new Linea has integrated CD, MP3, central door locking system, power window, power steering; tilt adjustable steering, internally adjustable outdoor rear view mirror (ORVM) and speed sensitive volume adjuster, among others.

Both the cars have safety features like front air bags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution, fire prevention system (FPS), anti-theft engine immobiliser, digital door open indicator and higher ground clearance along with keyless remote entry system. The cars are available in six colour options—medium grey, electric blue, exotica red, minima grey, hip hop black and bossa nova white.
