AUG 08 -

Three years after coming out with its first instalment, the 2nd Kathmandu International Arts Festival is set to kick off come November 25. Titled Earth|Body|Mind this time around the triennial festival aims to hit upon the concerns of the contemporary world with particular focus on ecology, the environment, and climate change as interpreted by artists. A press meet was conducted at the Himalayan Bank, Kamaladi on Tuesday to disseminate information on the festival.

Organised by the Siddhartha Art Foundation, the festival will be a mega art event, comprising four weeks of non-stop art related activities, including a three day symposium, performances by national and international artists, a Pecha Kucha night as well as guided tours of exhibitions to take place simultaneously in nine venues spread across the Capital. It will bring together a total of 98 artists from 31 countries including 22 artists from Nepal, who are currently working on projects based on the festival theme, giving the event a truly international feel.

According to the organisers, the festival seeks to get individuals to “take the time to reflect on his/her relationship with nature, the state of this planet, and to question how each of us live in it.”

Due to the massive scale of the festival—it is deemed to be the largest arts event on the environment in the world—the arts foundation is still looking for funding. In this attempt, it is to launch a fundraising campaign on kickstarter.com on August 15 where individuals can contribute as per their ability.

The 2nd Kathmandu International Arts Festival will be held from November 25 to December 21.
