PALPA, AUG 08 - Education Minister Dina Nath Sharma said that the current government would not resign anytime soon because it was formed to complete the tasks of peace process and constitution writing. He remarked that the government would not be threatened by minor protests on the street.
Minister Sharma, who arrived here in Tansen, the district headquarters, to attend the golden jubilee function of Mahendrabodi Higher Secondary School, asserted that the government would not step down until the completion of the peace process and constitution drafting.
“This government won’t back down and won’t resign,” said Sharma, who represents UCPN (Maoist) in the government. “Maoists won’t be afraid of black flags. We are the power which braved the gun barrels.” He, however, tried to clarify that it was not a threat.
He said the stubbornness on the part of political parties that the government should go right away is not logical. He added the government would not leave the office without giving the new constitution, arguing that there had been an agreement that the government will leave the office after promulgating the constitution. “This government would not stand down until the completion of new constitution with the guarantee of identity-based federalism,” said Minister Sharma. “How the to-be-formed government will be constitutional if the current government is unconstitutional?” he questioned.
