KATHMANDU, JUL 04 -
The Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday remanded the alleged mastermind of the February 27 Babarmahal bomb blast, Depraj Tamang aka Bishwokranti, in police custody for further investigation.
After being arrested from Panchthar on June 26, Bishwokranti was produced before the court on June 27 for statements. According to police, Bishwokranti is a native of Dhankuta. It has been learnt that he had been hiding in Panchthar ever since the incident that took lives of three, injuring seven others. The blast was triggered in front of the head office of Nepal Oil Corporation.
Police had arrested six persons in connection with the explosion. They were arrested from various places in the Capital with pamphlets of Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha and explosive materials used to make bombs.
According to DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, spokesman of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, Bishwokranti and the group, active in districts such as Dhading and Nuwakot with the name of the underground outfit SJMM, are involved in extortion and other criminal activities. Police say although the convicts claim that there was a political motive behind the blast, it was all about spreading terror in the name of SJMM with an intention to panic public and fortify their own criminal profile.
