Services in Chitwan hospitals halted for indefinite time

CHITWAN, JUL 15 -

Services in entire hospitals in Chitwan except emergencies have come to a grinding halt for indefinite period from Sunday protesting against continuous attacks on doctors, staffers.

According to Chitwan chapter of Nepal Medical Association Secretary Krishna Poudel, they have been compelled to resort to protest for their security.

He said they will not resume services in hospitals until government guarantees security.

Last Friday, former DSP of Armed Police Force Bir Bahadur Chand, who went berserk following the death of her daughter, had assaulted staff nurse Anita Bhusal of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital

Chand's daughter Barsha, 14, a patient of blood cancer, died Thursday night while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, Chand hit Bhusal on her face accusing her of giving over-dose medicine. Bhusal sustained injuries in the attack.

Likewise, Medical Superintendent of Bhartpur Hospital Dr Mahendra Neupane was also attacked on Saturday following the death of one Ram Chandra Samari, 83. Samari passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Dr Neupane was attacked by the deceased relatives.Police have detained Samari's son for the interrogation.
