Sex education through ´SMS´

Sex education to sex workers women through ´SMS´ has embarked on in Chitwan for the first time.

Imparting text message through cell phone has kicked off as a campaign after collecting their mobile numbers.

The innovative idea is launched considering the sex workers´ tendency to not speak out their expressions, said Yubaraj Sapkota, Program Coordinator of Sahabhagi, an organization working in the theme of sex workers women and their clients.

It is first-ever in Chitwan that the organization has initiated imparting sex education to sex workers through SMS. Of late, text message has been disseminated to 40 sex workers women under Sex Education Program, the organization sources said.

´Sex workers women generally do not tend to expose their business so that we have started imparting message reaching their residence being sensitive to confidentiality´, he further informed.

The campaign is in place to motivate sex workers for safe sex as various sexually transmitted diseases including HIV are found to have been communicated through sex workers at length, said Executive Director of Sahabhagi, Shaligram Poudel.

There are as many as 1,000 sexual workers and their 10,000 clients in Chitwan district alone according to the statistics maintained by the organisation. RSS
