KATHMANDU, JUL 12 -
For the last five years, Indigenous Film Archive (IFA) Nepal has bought various indigenous cultures from around the world to the screens of Kathmandu through the Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival (NIIFF). This year, NIIFF is back with the theme ‘Pathfinder... Indigenous Youth’, which is dedicated to indigenous youths stepping up to showcase their cultural heritage, as well as the various ways in which communities have evolved in recent times, and more importantly, the efforts members have put up to preserve their unique arts and skills in the face of rampant globalisation.
Dubbed the third largest indigenous film festival in the world by IFA Nepal, NIIFF this year—to be held between July12-15 at the Nepal Tourism Board and City Hall—will screen 79 documentaries and films from over 20 countries including Nepal. The event will incorporate various workshops besides the screenings, which will mostly revolve around issues on indigenous youth policies, government policies on indigenous people and filmmaking in general. This includes a two-hour workshop on film direction and production conducted by Australian filmmaker Andrew Vial.
The event is also associated with the Nepal Indigenous Food Festival 2012 which will present cuisines associated with as many as 11 different ethnic communities. Handicrafts furnished by Newari and Magar craftsmen will also be on display.
Entry fee is Rs 30 for adults and Rs 15 for students per film
